NEW Latest Film Repeat, featuring Naveen Chandra and Madhoo | 2023 latest film review

Disney Plus Hotstar has released a mystery thriller film titled Repeat, featuring Naveen Chandra and Madhoo in lead roles. The film is streaming on the platform and follows the story of a novelist, Subramanyam, who seeks help from the police when characters from his imaginary stories start coming to life and threatening him. The police are skeptical of his claims, but when the DGP’s daughter is abducted in the same way described in Subramanyam’s story, they believe he may be involved. An undercover cop, Vikram Kumar, is assigned to solve the mystery and find the missing girl.

Plus Points:

  • Naveen Chandra’s performance as the undercover cop is strong and he carries the film well throughout.
  • The film’s second hour is engaging, with twists and turns that are hard to predict. The final twist is particularly satisfying.
  • The comedy in the film is decent and Madhoo does a good job in her role as the DGP.
  • Achyuth Kumar, Satyam Rajesh, Pooja Ramachandran, Mime Gopi, and Smruthi Venkat all give adequate performances in their respective roles.

Minus Points:

  • The film’s plot is not established well in the beginning, which hinders its success. It lacks the tense atmosphere and mystery that are crucial for a thriller to work.
  • The opening sequences are confusing and the connection between individual scenes is weak. The film uses a lot of footage from its original version, which takes away from the authenticity of the Telugu film.
  • There are logical errors and the editing is not seamless, with some parts feeling rushed while others dragging on.

Technical Aspects:

  • The background score by Ghibran is effective and the cinematography by PG Muthaiah is decent.
  • The production values are average and the editing could have been better.
  • The director, Arvindh Srinivasan, could have improved the execution of the film, particularly the first hour. While the concept was promising, the execution did not fully deliver.

Verdict:

Overall, Repeat is an average film with good twists in the second hour. While the performances and twists are strong, the first hour is lacking and there are logical errors throughout. Crime thriller fans may still want to give it a watch this weekend.
