“Love Today: A Unique and Engaging Film”

Story:

Pradeep and Nikita are a couple who want to get married, but Nikita’s father puts a condition on their relationship. He asks them to exchange phones for a day, and if they can go without any issues, he will approve of their marriage. However, this small task ends up changing their lives in a big way.

Plus Points:

  • The film, written and directed by Pradeep Ranganathan, is unique and effectively set in the contemporary world. The concept of exchanging phones for a day is intriguing, especially in this generation. Pradeep gives a strong performance as the main lead, showcasing low confidence as a possessive boyfriend. Ivana is also stunning in her role and delivers strong emotional scenes. The film also highlights the dangers of social media and has a relevant message.
  • The first half is filled with hilarious comedy, using apps like WhatsApp to show the issues that can arise between a couple. Satyaraj is solid in his role and adds depth to the film. The second half has strong drama and emotions, particularly in the realization scenes between the couple. Radhika and Yogi Babu also give good performances in their supporting roles.

Minus Points:

  • The film takes a while to get to the main plot and the initial scenes are slow.
  • The couple gets into serious arguments after exchanging phones, and the hero bad-mouths the heroine, but she doesn’t retaliate much. This could have been developed more.
  •  The film is also a bit slow and could have been shorter.

Technical Aspects:

The music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is excellent, particularly the climax number and the BGM. The Telugu dubbing is good and the dialogues are effective. The cinematography and production design are strong, but the editing could have been better.

Director Pradeep Ranganathan should be commended for his unique concept and strong execution. He effectively balances comedy in the first half and drama in the second, showcasing his prowess as a director.

Verdict:

Overall, Love Today is a hilarious comedy drama that will appeal to the youth. It has strong comedy in the first half and sensible drama in the second. The film effectively highlights the dangers of social media and has good performances, a strong backdrop, and an engaging narrative. It’s worth a watch this weekend.
