DOCTOR G MOVIE REVIEW BY RIZWAN GHALLU

Introduction:

Doctor G is a film about a medical student who becomes a gynaecologist despite his initial reluctance and dislike for the field.

Synopsis:

Uday Gupta (Ayushmann Khurrana) is a medical student in Bhopal who is unable to get into his preferred field of orthopaedics due to low marks. He is instead assigned to study gynaecology, a subject he is not interested in. Despite this, his orthopaedic cousin Ashok (Indraneil Sengupta) encourages him to continue studying and try for a better rank the following year. Uday begins his course, but faces resistance from his batchmates and the head of the department, Dr. Nandini Srivastava (Shefali Shah), who dislike his lack of passion for the subject. His girlfriend Richa also breaks up with him, citing his possessive nature and lack of understanding of women. Uday eventually becomes friends with a fellow student, Fatima (Rakul Preet Singh), but their relationship becomes complicated when Fatima gets engaged to another man.

Story Review:

Doctor G has a decent story, though it does resemble films like MUNNA BHAI MBBS and 3 IDIOTS. The screenplay, written by Sumit Saxena, Saurabh Bharat, Vishal Wagh, and Anubhuti Kashyap, is a bit scattered in the first half, but improves in the second half when the message of the film becomes clear. The subplot featuring Kavya (Ayesha Kaduskar) is also noteworthy. The dialogues by Sumit Saxena are simple yet effective. Anubhuti Kashyap’s direction is adequate, and she succeeds in normalizing discussions about taboo topics related to the female reproductive system. However, the film has several flaws, including a confusing title, a weak romantic plot, and a lack of focus on Rakul Preet Singh’s character in the latter half of the film. The adult certification is also unnecessary, as the content is suitable for all audiences.

Technical Aspects:

It is not specified in the review what the technical aspects of the film are.

Performances:

Ayushmann Khurrana gives a strong performance, particularly in the emotional scenes of the second half. Rakul Preet Singh is beautiful and gives a decent performance, although her character becomes less prominent in the latter part of the film. Shefali Shah is excellent as the head of the department, and Ayesha Kaduskar shines in her supporting role. The rest of the cast also delivers good performances.

Negative Points:

  • Confusing title
  • Weak romantic plot
  • Lack of focus on Rakul Preet Singh’s character in the latter half of the film
  • Unnecessary adult certification

Positive Points:

Normalizes discussions about taboo topics related to the female reproductive system
Good performances from the cast, particularly Ayushmann Khurrana and Shefali Shah
Subplot featuring Kavya adds depth to the film

Rating: 2.5/5

Conclusion:

Doctor G is a decent film with good performances and a message about normalizing discussions about taboo topics, but it is flawed by a weak romantic plot and a lack of focus on certain characters.
